Notes
- Note: This election predates Prince Edward Island's official entry into the Canadian Confederation on July 1, 1873. It determined the composition of the now 'Provincial' legislature at the point of entry into the Canadian Confederation. The first 'Provincial' election was on August 17, 1876.
- Note: Although Prince Edward Island did not enter Confederation until 1873, the Charlottetown Conference (Charlottetown being the capital of the colony) from September 1 - 7 1864 was a critical first step in the formation of a Canadian Confederation on July 1, 1867.
- Note: As with Woodside in 1st Prince, the identity of Vickerson in 5th Prince is unclear.
- Note: The political affiliation of John Yeo in 2nd Prince in the 1873 general election is not certain. He was first elected to the House of Assembly as a Conservative in 1858 but was a federal Liberal in the 1890s. He was appointed to the Island’s Executive Council in 1870 by Conservative Premier James C. Pope, so it seems likely that he was still a Conservative in 1873. He was elected in 1876 under the Free School banner (for information on the Free School Coalition, see note in “1876 General Election”), which may signal the beginning of his transition to the Liber. Some records show him as a Conservative until 1890 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Yeo), after which he ran as a Liberal in federal politics. In any event, he was acclaimed in 2nd Prince in 1873, along with his elder brother, James (Liberal), again suggestive that John was a Conservative. (See Minding the House, sub. “Yeo, Honourable John”)
- Note: James W. Richards, who was nominated on the Conservative ticket in 2nd Prince, appears to have withdrawn his candidacy by the day of the election - his name does not appear in the results for Prince County.
