- Electoral System: Originally, PEI had a bicameral legislative system with the Legislative Council serving as the Upper House and the House of Assembly as the Lower House. In 1893, the two bodies were amalgamated into a single assembly consisting of 15 dual member constituencies. Each riding elected a Councillor and Assemblyman to the Legislative Assembly.
